Expats coaching
EXPATS COACHING
Did you know that almost half of international assignments fail?
Well prepared or not, expat life can be surprising for people, as expectations usually don’t match real life.
The culture shock somehow hits you at one point.
But what is culture?
Culture is our normality that we never question until we are forced to. Then the small details you take for granted in your home country make what should be simple day-to-day life unexpectedly stressful when living abroad.
This is where coaching can support your journey. Together we will explore the challenges you are questioning and find out all your resources to make it work your way.
Even if you have lived abroad before, as each relocation is different. Your family circumstances may have changed over time and you might feel different for this particular move. Therefore you might be interested in redefining who you are and who you want to be in this new life. An amazing toolbox is in you and we just need to take it out for you to reach your potential.
Everyone is different and every relocation as well. First instance it might be useful to follow ‘what all other expats do or say’ but following the crowd is not for everyone.
I offer you the opportunity to set yourself up for your best life today.
Don’t follow the flow be the flow!
FAMILY COACHING
Family is an anchor during rough waters.
When relocating the first focus is usually on the assignee however the challenge concerns the whole family.
An international move can highly impact not only the spouse but also the children.
It is an intense experience for youth who have to face the emotional stress of moving abroad.
If they are young they soon will become what we call “third culture kids”.
If they are teenagers, they are facing a difficult period in their life, as for all children.
And when children are removed from their close circle of friends, they often find it even more difficult to deal with the mental and physical changes they are experiencing.
It often takes a little while to settle into a new location, especially if the move is to a country with a completely alien culture. Having a cultural understanding of the host country is key to support kids’ transition and enhance their resilience capability. Children will succeed in this challenge when the family supports them. Here comes the importance of the family working as a team; developping a strong communication, addressing in confidence important topics and having a common goal. This is where family coaching can help clarifying everyone’s expectation and reality to enlighten a common way while respecting everyone’s identity.
Like branches on a tree, family members grow in different directions having yet roots remain as one.
